Volunteer Housemother Job Description- India

Volunteer Story

Hello, I’m Nina and I started volunteering with Pestalozzi in 2015 after over 32 years working in Financial Services and have been lucky enough to spend time in both the Zambian and Indian villages.

In India I taught English to the new group of children and also worked in the office.  Living on site you get the opportunity to get to know the children and staff really well and the children genuinely appreciate you giving your time and energy to help them.  To see the children blossom from their first few tentative days in the Foundation year to young adults is just awesome.

It is always an emotional wrench when the time comes for me to leave.  The children put on a show and made lovely speeches about what I have done for them.  However, I don’t think they will ever understand how much they do for me.  They welcome me into their homes, they introduce me to new food and experiences and they are all loving and genuine people.  The philosophy of “Head, Heart and Minds” is showcased in each and every child.
