Indian Village

The PestalozziWorld Indian Village, located in Dehradun, is home away from home for 90 girls and 48 boys. It was launched in 2004 to serve children from poor parts of India, Tibetan refugee camps, and Nepal. Newly selected students start their PestalozziWorld journey living in the Village’s Foundation House. One year later, they then become residents in one of the Village’s six other houses. The PestalozziWorld children travel by school bus to one of five selective, high-quality private schools around town.

"PestalozziWorld enriched my academic and life experiences in a way that has kindled my spirit for learning. I am grateful to PestalozziWorld for strengthening me and my future."

After they return from their secondary schools, they play basketball, volleyball, or football and to tend to their organic garden, help prepare food, do laundry, meet with the PestalozziWorld Pastoral Officer, continue projects of needlework, carpentry, or the cleaning and maintaining of their facilities.

Many children in the Village are also singing in a choir and taking music lessons, thanks to the Royal Over-Seas League. Tutors come to the village in the evening to help students with school work.

About The Indian Village

Located in the foothill of the Himalayas, the Indian city of Dehradun is home to PestalozziWorld’s Indian Village. About one-third of its children are Indian, one-third are from Nepal, and the families of the other third are Tibetan refugees.

Dehradun is also home to a number of high-quality secondary schools which are pleased to enroll PestalozziWorld students. Despite being seemingly close to Nepal, students must spend many hours on a bus through the mountains just to get to the national border.
