Asian Students Earn Scholarships
We are delighted that two girl students, Pratibha Tiwari and
Tenzin Dolkar, are now in the UK and Norway respectively on International
Baccalaureate diploma scholarships. Eight students also
left for Kolkata at the end of September for IB scholarships at
Oaktree International School.
Getting 10 scholarships this year has been a great fortune for
us. Once students gain the IB diploma, it will become much
easier (in fact almost automatic) to obtain college scholarships,
particularly in the US, which means the scholars can truly become
independent.
At the same time, our remaining 12th Grade students are considering
in earnest their college and course options. Once they have
finalized their college choice, we have to start looking for sponsors
for them. We expect a combined effort between the parents,
PestalozziWorld and the students themselves (perhaps in the form
of education loans) to see them through their college education.
Many of the 14 students are interested in banking and accountancy
and seem to be opting for commerce courses. Our preference
is for them to pursue courses that will not drag on for years
in aimless academic pursuits but lead quickly to careers.
Meanwhile, two of our young alumni were here for their holidays,
participting in village activities and even teaching Maths. Bimla
Shrestha and Santosh Nagarkotti (pictured right, centre) were
awarded the “The Pestalozzian Of The Year-2010” and
“PCVS Academician Of The Year -2010,” in absentia
during the founder’s day ceremony in January 2011, as they
were away in schools in Pune and UK. We had a simple ceremony
to honour these students. Our warm congratulationss to both!
If you
would like to support any of our students, please make a donation
