Reunion 2008 Reunion 2006 Reunion 2005 Reunion 2004 UK Alumni Party 2003 Reunion 2003  Reunion 2002 Reunion 2000

Every year the alumni who carry on the work of Pestalozzi through the Foundations in their own countries meet up at Reunions supported by POCT. So far they have been hosted by the Indians, Nepalese, Thais, Tibetans, Malawians and Zambians, as well as by POCT at the Pestalozzi Children's Village in the UK.

During these reunions, meetings which assess and plan the work of POCT and the Foundations are given as much importance as social engagements and fun. What comes out clearly from these get togethers, is the great enthusiasm of the Alumni, which is particularly apparent in the voluntary time and energy they put into their work for the Foundations in their own countries.

African Alumni Reunion May 2010

The 2010 African Alumni Reunion was held in May at the Pestalozzi Village, Ibex Hill, Lusaka, giving all those who attended the chance to see the new buildings and to experience the marvellous atmosphere of the Pestalozzi African Village.  The event was hosted by the Zambian alumni with thirty three Zambian alumni present and seventeen Malawian alumni.  Staff of the newly established school and of the Village also joined the meetings, along with Trustees from various PestalozziWorld organisations.

The guest speakers inspired the alumni with talks about small scale business initiatives while the alumni spoke about their successes so far and their aspirations for the future.

Mrs Elizabeth Beim, Director of the US Children’s Charity Inc, officially opened the ‘First Boston’ House where a group of the Pestalozzi children are accommodated.

Asian Alumni Reunion 2009

The 2009 Asian Alumni Reunion was held in October at the Songsten Library, Dehradun in North India and was hosted by the Indian and Tibetan Pestalozzi Foundations.  Representatives from the Indian, Nepalese, Thai and Tibetan Foundations attended the reunion as well as the Asian Village staff and Pestalozzi Trustees.  For the first time representatives from Pestalozzi in Africa also joined the Asian Reunion.

The main focus of the event was how best to support the PestalozziWorld alumni and how to ensure the involvement of the PestalozziWorld alumni in the work of PestalozziWorld.

African Alumni Reunion 2009

The third African Alumni Reunion was held in May at the Pestalozzi Village, Ibex Hill, Lusaka and was hosted by the Zambian alumni.   Eleven Malawian and thirty three Zambian alumni came for the weekend, along with the African Village staff and Trustees from various PestalozziWorld organisations.

The meetings provided the alumni with an overview of the work of PestalozziWorld and the educational philosophy of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi.  The alumni discussed future plans for small scale business enterprises in afternoon workshops.

Reunion of US Alumni 2009

The second US Alumni Reunion was held in New York in March 2009 and was attended by 17 US based Pestalozzi alumni and by Directors of the Pestalozzi US Childrens Charity Inc.

The day of meetings was designed to help the alumni to choose suitable career paths. The longer term aim is to encourage these alumni, who have excelled academically and gained full scholarships to study at various universities in the US, to give back to PestalozziWorld in the future.

Reunion 2008

This year's PestalozziWorld Reunion was held in Baar, Switzerland, close to Pestalozzi’s birthplace from 5th to 10th of June. It included the usual PestalozziWorld Foundation meetings held on 6th June, and a day celebrating the life and legacy of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi on 7th June. There was also an opportunity to visit places of importance in Pestalozzi’s life on the 8th and an optional excursion on 9th, before participants left that evening or the following morning.

Many of the Pestalozzi alumni were funded to join us at the personal expense of the trustees and we were delighted to welcome alumni from Malawi, Zambia, India, Nepal, Thailand, the Tibetan exile community and Vietnam.

Reunion 2006

2006 The annual Pestalozzi reunion took place in Thailand over the first weekend of March 2006. The reunion was hosted by the Thai Pestalozzi Foundation and was by held by the sea, not far from Pattaya, on a naval base whose facilities were loaned to us for the weekend through the kind efforts of Pestalozzi alumnus, Jiradet Kasemsuk.

Reunion 2003

Reunion 2003 was hosted by PAHAD, the Nepal Pestalozzi Foundation, in February. The venue was generously provided by Budhanilkantha School.

A major aim of the Reunion was to establish guidelines for the proposed Pestalozzi Asian Village and to promote foundation involvement in it.

As well as the usual mix of business and pleasure, PAHAD had a fashion show to raise money for its sponsorship of children and successfully raised substantial funds.

(Meeting notes are available online via the webmaster at info @ pestalozziworld.com.)

Reunion 2002

Reunion 2002 was hosted at the end of Febraury by Phuntsok Tashi of the Tibetan Foundation at the SOS Technical Centre for Tibetans in Dehra Dun, North India. An exciting mixture of Pestalozzi people attended: PCVT alumni, ranging from those who graduated more than 20 years ago to one who finished the IB programme just a year and a half ago; in addition and for the first time, current post-secondary level POCT students joined in.

The main thrust of the Reunion was as usual to build on the work of the Pestalozzi Foundations, all of which plan to increase the number of students they support during 2002.

As well as the dedication of the older people in the alumni body to this end, it was exciting to see the younger generation’s commitment and the enthusiasm shared by all for building links and bonds between the Foundations of the different countries.

Reunion 2000

The 2000 Reunion took place from October 18th to 24th, 2000, was hosted by the Thai alumni and held at Chiangmai University in Northeast Thailand. One of the encouraging outcomes of this Reunion was the strengthening of the Foundations' committment to do all they can to continue supporting scholars according to the Pestalozzi philosophy, and spare no efforts in fundraising and initiating fresh alumni to their work. To further these objectives, it was agreed that each Foundation would set up its own website during 2001 with links to the other Pestalozzi websites.

Val Winslade, Trust Secretary, Pestalozzi Children's Village Trust, UK, wrote about this Reunion:
We began in Bangkok, travelling from there to Chiangmai for the meetings via Thailand's ancient capitals of Ayuttaya and Sukothai. While in Chiangmai we were taken to see elephants at work and at rest at Mae Sa Elephant Camp, to a 'Kantoke' dinner where we had a traditional Chiangmai style dinner, while watching a performance on stage which included three elephants. We then had the chance to buy gifts for people at home in Wunchai's shop, which sells goods made out of recycled paper. We also celebrated the end of the Reunion with a party at 'Jiradet's Resort'.

Jiradet had arranged for us to have the meetings and to stay in Chiangmai University's Conference suite. The accommodation was perfect, with delicious food and the meetings were a great success, as usual giving everyone the chance to share information and progress and to make invaluable links.

Many thanks to the Thai Foundation for organising such a productive and enjoyable Reunion.
