School in Lonavla, Maharashtra and one is studying at university level
(please note this is an exceptional case. 18 Indian students study at the Pestalozzi Asian Village, Dehradun. There are 7 Indian Foundation students in Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra. Tibetans in exile in IndiaThere are 35 POCT/PUSCCI students. 14 of these receive their education in at the Tibetan's Children's Village, Dharamsala, the Headquarters of the Tibetans in exile. A further 5 study at the Pestalozzi Asian Village in Dehradun. A further 16 have started at the Pestalozzi Asian Village in Dehradun over the last 2 years. MalawiThere are 20 POCT/PUSCCI students in Malawi, who are attending a local
community school near Mzuzu. This project began in 2003 and numbers are
expected to increase gradually over the coming years. NepalThere are 100 POCT/PUSCCI students. 31 of them study at Shri Sita Ram Higher Secondary School in the village of Uchchakot in the Far West of Nepal. The girls amongst them are the first girls to board in the area. Some of the recent graduates are the first girls ever to achieve a first degree pass from the school. Some of the boys are from the lower castes, another group in the area which has never had the chance to board before. 3 graduates of the school study in the local technical centre. 34 students study at Budhanilkantha School in Kathmandu, where the Nepalese Government runs a scheme whereby one third of the children in the school are on scholarships and are selected from all the regions of Nepal. There are 16 Nepalese students at the Pestalozzi Asian Village, Dehradun. There are 9 tertiary level students in various colleges in Kathmandu and 1 studying nursing in Nepalgunj, and 2 in Doti. 4 of the graduates from Budhanilkantha are currently for teh 2-year International Baccalaureate, 2 of them at Pestalozzi Village UK and 2 at the United World College Mahindra. PAHAD, the Nepal Foundation, are supporting a further 16 scholars through their own fundraising. ThailandAmong the 78 students in four different provinces of Thailand, whose education is being monitored by the Thai Foundation, 41 have their education sponsored by POCT. VietnamThe 4 students supported by the Vietnamese Foundation completed school in 2003 and are now continuing their further education. Zambia
There are 105 Zambian POCT/PUSCCI students. 10 girls study at the Kasisi Girls' Secondary School, near Lusaka. There are 77 girls at the Pestalozzi Children's Centre, Kasisi, near Lusaka and another 18 at local secondary schools. 2 graduates of the centre have recently joined the United World College Mahindra to study the IB. Ex-ScholarsPestalozziworld is only 10 years old but we already have students who have completed their secondary level education. These students, numbering nearly 200, are continuing into tertiary level education. ZimbabwePOCT, in co-operation with the Cambridge Female Education Trust (CamFed), sponsored the education of 48 girls in the Nyanga District. These 48 girls completed their secondary education in 1999, and are being guided in their futures by CamFed. |
